Traveller Book Club – The Alchemist
As a traveller, who spends a lot of time on planes, coaches, trains, airport waiting rooms, I always appreciated a good book to pass the time and to inspire me on my travels. For that reason, I thought, it would be nice to have an online book club for travellers where we can share and discuss our favourite books.
I will start off the first Book Club with an all-time favourite, the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The Alchemist is about adventure, wisdom and the courage to follow your dreams and listen to our hearts no matter what obstacles you may face.
It provides life lessons through the incredible journey of a Shepherd boy to Egypt and the life stories of the people he meets on the way. The story is eye-opening and inspiring. It talks about the obstacles and fear people face when chasing their dreams and trusting their instincts. One of my favourite quote from the book talks exactly about that:
“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”
It is beautifully written and I was not able to put it down again! The ending is a bit unexpected to me personally, but I don’t want to spoil anything here for those who haven’t read it yet. I would love to hear your opinion on the Alchemist and hope you will join the discussion below! 🙂
